What Can You Do About The "August Creep"

Take action.

Local school officials normally set school year calendars beginning in
February, March and April.  But some are starting as early as October.
Call your Superintendent and ask when the calendar planning will begin
for the upcoming year.

Ask a teacher how they feel about the shorter summer break and how
it affects continuing education and certification that's so important to
teacher pay.

Talk to your Principal, the President of your School Board or the
Superintendent.  Let them know your support of efforts to move the
school year back to where it used to be - starting September 1st.

Attend a teachers' meeting, a PTA meeting to voice how the shorter
summer break affects you and students.

Support legislative efforts.  Write to your local officials.  Find out where
they stand.
